Environmental performance

In 2025, Royal Ahrend followed up on 2024 initiatives to reduce environmental impact. We also took important steps to strengthen our data and target frameworks for a long-term impact.

SBTi‑approved climate targets

This year, Royal Ahrend has received official approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its greenhouse gas reduction targets. The validation confirms that short‑ and long‑term climate targets are aligned with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C pathway and cover emissions across the entire value chain, including scope 3. In parallel, we are close to finalising our climate transition plan to support the delivery of these targets.

Sustainable products

In 2025, Royal Ahrend introduced the Luvia backrest, developed as a retrofit solution for the iconic A2020 task chair. This circular innovation is designed to extend the emotional and functional lifespan of our high‑quality products. The new backrest gives the A2020 a refreshed look and feel while meeting current ergonomic standards. Made from recycled plastics, it enables customers to replace only a component rather than the entire chair, supporting a shift from full product replacement to thoughtful upgrades. This launch represents an important milestone in our transition towards hybrid products that combine new and reused components.

Looking ahead to 2026, we will focus on executing our climate transition plan, building on initiatives already underway. Key priorities include lightweight product design, design for disassembly, the use of safe and circular materials, and an increased focus on low‑carbon and secondary materials.

Circular services

Our circular service offerings continue to grow gradually. In 2025, we held €19,86 mln in leased assets in the market - a 4% increase compared to 2024. Revenues from circular services such as consultancy, refurbishment, and Revived product sales also increased. Growth targets have been established; however, the monitoring framework and scaling activities will be further developed during 2026 and 2027.

Our scenario planner, launched in 2025, supports customers in making conscious, circular purchasing decisions. The tool makes circular workplace design tangible by presenting multiple furniture design scenarios with varying environmental performance. Through this transparent approach, we enable data-driven decision-making and actively support our customers in advancing their sustainability journey.

Climate action

Scope 1 and 2 emissions

We have set a clear ambition to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 85% by 2030 compared to 2018. By the end of 2025, we had already achieved a 74% reduction, keeping us firmly on track to reach this target.

In 2025, we completed the transition to renewable electricity across our global operations. All locations now operate on wind and solar energy, marking a significant milestone towards our 2030 climate goals. In addition, our roadmap includes the full electrification of leased vehicles, a transition that will be completed before 2030.

Scope 3 Emissions

Scope 3 emissions account for 97% of our total carbon footprint. Our ambition is to reduce these emissions by 42% by 2030, compared to a 2023 baseline, with improving the environmental footprint of our furniture portfolio as a key lever. Our 2025 emissions were 12% lower compared to our baseline for various reasons.

We aim to develop Environmental Product Declarations (third party verified lifecycle assessments) for 95% of our sales volume. By the end of 2025, we had achieved 61% coverage, and existing EPDs are being updated to comply with the EN 15804+A2 standard.

We also made strong progress in sustainable logistics. In 2025, we further expanded our fleet with new electric lorries, supporting our ambition to provide electric deliveries to all customers in the Benelux by 2030.

Waste and resources

In 2025, we expanded our waste management practices to track 22 different waste streams. Of all production waste, 46% was reused or recycled, 52% was used for energy recovery and 1% was incinerated. Production waste reduced by 41% since 2023, because of the establishment of a closed loop system with wood suppliers. Hazardous waste remained low at 1%. Our water withdrawal reduced slightly to 12.071 m³.

Outlook 2026 and beyond

In 2026, we will strengthen the collaboration with our suppliers to further improve the accuracy of our Scope 3 emissions data. At the same time, we will continue executing our climate transition plan, with a strong focus on making upstream production fo metals, glass and plastics more sustainable.

We also plan international expansion of our circular services, including consultancy, refurbishment and Revived product sales. These services will continue to play a key role in supporting our customers’ sustainability goals and expanding our circular business model.

Finally, we will scale up our efforts to decarbonise our logistics, expanding the use of emission-free delivery options in the Benelux and exploring additional low-carbon transport solutions. Through these actions, we are confident that we will remain on track to meet our environmental targets for 2027 and 2030.
